Joe Fonda and Bass of Operation is a quartet with Jeff Lederer playing clarinet, flute and piccolo, Michael Rabinowitz on bassoon, Harvey Sorgen on drums and Joe Fonda on bass. The ensemble plays compositions by bassist Harvey Sorgen. The texture and sound of the combination of the bassoon with either clarinet, flute or piccolo gives the quartet a chamber music feeling. Fonda’s compositions are a perfect fit for this unique chamber ensemble sound. Join us for a thrilling musical experience!

Sound Signal

A composer-led ensemble performs from a shared improvisational system shaped by color. Four core performers—Charles Pillow, woodwinds; Dave Rivello, synth; Nathan Smith, saxophone; and Benjamin Magruder, viola—guide a group of nine instrumentalists as a single projected color field slowly shifts throughout the performance. As the color changes, the musicians respond in real time, translating visual information into evolving texture, harmony, and gesture.

Jake Wark & Mike McNeill Duo

Jake Wark is a saxophonist and composer based in Rochester. Jake has been active in Chicago's jazz and improvised music community for over a decade, where he regularly performed at the city's leading outlets for creative music. Jake is joined by Michael McNeill is a pianist, improviser, and composer from Western New York. He performs in jazz settings with John Bacon, Griff Kazmierczak, Dave Phillips, and the Buffalo Jazz Composers Workshop, and in chamber music settings.

Ricky Ford Quartet

Ricky Ford has been one of the leading tenor saxophonists in jazz since he burst on the scene in the 1970s working with the Duke Ellington Orchestra and Charles Mingus. His annual visits to the Bop Shop have become eagerly anticipated. He will return with his quartet including John Kordalewski on piano, Tony Marino on bass, and Thurman Barker on drums.
