Spiegeltent

What happens in the Spiegeltent stays in the Spiegeltent.

What happens in the Spiegeltent stays in the Spiegeltent.

Since 2013, Rochester has swooned over our jewel box of a venue from Malle, Belgium: the Spiegeltent. Originally created as traveling dance halls in the early 1900’s, only a handful of these magical “Mirror Tents” exist in the world today.

This beloved piece of history boasts stained glass windows, magical faceted mirrors, a velvet draped ceiling, VIP booths fit for royalty, and a truly spectacular vintage bar. For 11 days, the Cristal Palace Spiegeltent lives in Rochester as an indelible and scintillating part of the Fringe, attracting the young and the forever-young.

LOCATION

One Fringe Place across from the Eastman Theatre, at Main & Gibbs Streets, Rochester, NY 14604.

The Spiegeltent is wheelchair accessible. All shows are presented in-the-round.

Cirque du Fringe: SideShow

The creators of last year’s sold-out smash hit, ECLECTIC ATTRACTION, invite you to take in the brand-new CIRQUE DU FRINGE: SIDESHOW, a fascinating blend of curiosities and feats of human performance inspired by the golden age of American circus. Part carnival midway, part speakeasy – with a dash of modern performance art SIDESHOW combines original live music, classic comedy, and death-defying acts presented by Ring Mistress Heidi and her slap-happy clown sidekick, Matt. "So wrong, they're hilarious." –Broadwayworld.com

Other People's Shows

Other People’s Shows is part genius, part drunk parrot: smart comedy with a shot of shameless mockery. You pick a show out of the Fringe Guide, and Unleashed! Improv will perform its interpretation of it on the spot – inspired only by the show’s description. Fringe performers will finally get a chance to see their own shows! But that’s not all. In the spirit of borrowing other people’s material, the twisted team will also interact with the audience, staging hilarious contests, show-downs, and feats of comedy strength based on TV and film favorites. A huge hit at previous Fringes, this year’s late-night version in the spectacular Spiegeltent will be legendary!

Shotspeare

SHOTSPEARE puts the “Lit” in Literature! Five sword-wielding actors, one lucky audience member, a ton of booze, the Wheel of Soliloquy, and an entire work of Shakespeare – all in 80 minutes. Equal parts bacchanal and classical theater, Shotspeare’s raucous adaptation of ROMEO & JULIET takes the world's most beloved playwright, soaks him in beer, and flips him on his head. You may know the Bard, but you’ve never experienced him like THIS, Rochester!

Silent Disco

The glamorous Spiegeltent will be filled once again with a giant dance party. But with a Fringe-y twist: you don’t hear a sound until you slip on a set of headphones. Wait! Is that Donna Summer on one channel, Calvin Harris on the second and Halsey on the third? A three-channel system and live DJs let you switch up your music at the touch of a button. Hugely popular at festivals like Bonnaroo and Burning Man, it’s an unforgettable experience you have to see – and not hear – to believe!
