"Beautifully Grotesque: The Life of Valeska Gert" is biographical dance theatre that tellls the story of avant-garde actor/dancer Valeska Gert. Known for her wild, anti-bourgeois, anarchic, expressionist dance solos, Gert challenged her audiences with realistic portrayals of people and culture from 1920s Berlin. Collard embodies Gert, re-creating some of her early solos. This performance resurrection is a tribute to one of the greatest artists of the 20th century, of which few have ever heard. .

Please note, like other fringe festivals around the world this year, our Virtual Fringe features open-access online shows that are not curated by Rochester Fringe. We strive to be an open platform, as performing artists have limited options during this unusual time. Show applications were reviewed to ensure appropriateness and alignment with Fringe's ideals of openness and inclusion.
